On his first journey to the Middle East in 1981, Lorenzo Villoresi developed a passion for spices and essences that he would later use, back in Italy, to create original potpourris and personalized fragrances. At the same time, he began his studies in Perfumery, essences, and methods of distillation, and produced many experimental tinctures, infusions, and other aromatics. During the 1980's, in addition to his academic career as a researcher in Ancient Philosophy, Lorenzo Villoresi developed an abiding passion for essences and perfumery. He continued receiving increasing requests for custom-made fragrances.

In 1993, after completing several important projects for famous names in the world of fashion, the first collection of Perfumes and Eaux de Toilettes carrying the Lorenzo Villoresi brand was introduced. The first two fragrances, named simply Uomo (Man) and Donna (Woman), remain much beloved classics even today.

Lorenzo Villoresi began to focus more on his own collections, and less on private-label projects. He created a number of "monothematic" fragrances as his personal interpretation of classic perfumery themes: Musk, Sandalo, Patchouli, Incensi, Spezie, Vetiver, and Wild Lavender are all characterized by complex formulas and a generous use of precious natural ingredients.

More recently, a new collection called "Fantasy Fragrances" was created. Here, the scents were inspired by "olfactory visions" that recall exotic, dreamlike landscapes, such as Piper Nigrum (the Spice Route), Teint de Niege (the sophisticated beauty of the Belle Epoque), Dilmun (a Mesopotamian paradise), and Yerbamate (an endless prairie with wild herbs and flowers). The latest scent to be added to this collection is Alamut (a rich and sumptuous Oriental fragrance), which appeared in 2006. A new project being developed now is a glacial fragrance inspired by a legendary people of the Great North.

Between 2005 and 2006, renovation began on the old family palace in the via de' Bardi. When work is completed, the palace will host an academy of perfumery, with courses, lectures, workshops, and so on, all involving the world of fragrances. There will also be an aromatic garden, a cafeteria, a shop, a collection of rare and unusual essences, and a small aromatic spa reserved for the members of the academy.
In 2006, Lorenzo Villoresi won the international perfumery award, the "Prix Coty," in Paris. This prize is the most important recognition a perfumer can receive in his artistic career.

The unique style of Lorenzo Villoresi's creations is the result of a blending of structured formulas and intense, soft and embracing notes that encompass the entire olfactory pyramid.
